the girl at mitre 10 asked what the humane trap was. i said,

it's a rat trap.

she said,

ew, do you like rats?

the humane trap didn't work. rats are too smart for that shit.

tui is a very good dog, he likes to hunt rats. only bad ones though. (not lovely friendly rats like shiva.)

mummy rat is pissed off now. the nest is gone. the food is gone. the trap is still ignored (rats are really smart, i will grant them that. but they smell bad.)

we feel your pain, mummy rat. but we asked you to leave nicely, and you didn't, so we killed your family.

well i'd like to believe it's true. the mice have stopped. so i have decided on a new mission. of course this new mission might not last, especially if there are more mice to document. but the trap remains baited and untouched for four days now, and i think we might have gotten the lot.

for now ... until vernon the vermin turns up, anyway :)

they both got caught last night (oooh, stereo!), little mouse is very small and was silly enough to check out a second trap after escaping the first (because it was 1am and i was fool enough to try and relocate her from the perfectly good wire cage into a jar, and she bounced straight out)

it seems that our cupboards have remained untouched by mice for some time, which is good.....

except on inspection of the "don't go there cupboard"(the only cupboard in the kitchen which we strangley neglected to clean-out upon moving in) a week ago. Expertly, obsessively, shredded newspaper was discovered on the floor, after the paper had been removed(along with other "don't-go-there" wares) by chris. Seems they're importing now!

the suspicion of human house-members(move over big brother) is that there is one mouse left in the house(check-out my rhyming Nova!), and her faliure to be trapped over the past few days may mean that she has gone away to breed in someother, cosier, section of the house......either that or she is indifferent to peanut butter, or is hunger-striking against mice being humanely trapped and released from her household.
