The auction was fun. When I saw the papers on the day, my birthday was the possession date. So I knew it was ours straight away.
There were four other parties turned up for the auction - but I recognised one as the next door neighbour Ivan. There was a guy about my age, a family (young couple and their parents), and a guy a few years older than me.
The guy my age and I bid against each other for a while, the family only tried to bid once (and were ignored by the auctioneer when they did?!) and I worried about the older guy who was clearly going to step in when one of us bidders dropped out.
He didn't though, and the other fella petered out below reserve, so we halved the difference between my top bid and the vendor's reserve and signed our papers. And now we own a house. Easy.
Turned out the guy I was focussing on was actually another neighbour come to watch the show, he introduced himself as Steve when the auction closed. And the family were ignored because the auctioneer knew they had no finance to buy it.
